Anti-Smoking Laws
Halifax Regional Municipality has prohibited smoking in all restaurants and bingo halls, but permits smoking in bars, casinos and private clubs only where they have separately enclosed & ventilated rooms. Smoking is allowed on outdoor patio areas of drinking establishments. A total smoking ban on all bars, casinos and private clubs will come into effect on January 1, 2008.
Nova Scotia's Smoke-Free Places Act specifies no smoking in most enclosed spaces, and that a designated smoking room cannot comprise more than 25% of seating area or
50% of seating in an outdoor patios smoking area. If youth under 19 are permitted to enter, no smoking allowed in an establishment except in a designated smoking room.
Beverage rooms & lounges may not permit smoking between between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM, except in a designated smoking room (but municipalities may pass tougher rules, see above)
