Guysborough lies at the head of Chedabucto Bay, and was settled in 1784 by disbanded troops and their families, having relocated from an earlier settlement called Port Mouton, which had burned down. The town is named for Sir Guy Carleton, then commander-in-chief of British forces in north America.

The Goshen Leisure Park is a nature park with some varieties of animals and birds also featured is a petting zoo, children's playground and picnic area. For the gardener there are various gardens and a butterfly house. For the bird watcher there is a bird habitat and a hummingbird garden. Operated by: Goshen Leisure Park Association Open May-June 30, 11:00 am-5:00 pm; July 1-September 10, 10:00 am-7:00 pm ; September 11-October 1, 11:00 am-5:00 pm. Old Court House Museum
{on corner of Church & Queen Streets},

The interior of this 1843 Court House has been restored and accommodates a reading room for research in County history and genealogy. On display are a collection of local artifacts, related to farming and h ousekeepinga large collection of photographs. Operated by: Guysborough Historical Society. Open June 1-October 1, daily 9:00 am-5:00 pm. Admission, free, donations welcome
