North East Margarees


View of nearby Belle Cote The town's name is an anglicized version of the 1685 names in the area Riviere de Magre or Riviere the Marguerite. Some of the best Atlantic Salmon fishing can be had along the Forks, Brook, Seal and Hatchery pool of the Margaree River. Mid-June to mid-July and September to mid-October are best fishing months.

The Margaree Salmon and Trout Hatchery contains exhibits of fishing and poaching equipment, an aquarium, and books. An exhibit depicts the life cycle of Atlantic salmon. Allow 30 minutes. Open daily 9 am to 5 pm from mid-June to mid-Oct. Admission $1.00, children under 12 are 25 cents.

Margaree Harbour

On the northern terminus of Highway 19, the Ceilidh ("KAY-lee") Trail which continues south to the Canso Causeway at Port Hastings.
